Salvager Venn retrieves dropped possessions from its underside. Decades of handling have left certain objects with learned movements: a tool can repeat the grip of the person who used it. Venn’s dead partner’s safety reel still pulls him back from a fall. ### Geographic Coordinates Not assigned. Event ### Interdimensional Transit — Arrival Ned wakes in a descending scrap cage and catches the reel. It pulls him toward the lattice, leaving Venn temporarily without the object on which he relies. ### Event The Things That Held Us A section gives way with Rook still below it. The reel keeps pulling toward Venn’s old safe anchor, now on the wrong side of the break. Ned can hold its release open, but Venn must cut the cable and trust Rook to throw a new one. He cuts it. Together the three reach the maintenance deck; the reel falls with the wreckage. ### Interdimensional Transit — Departure Ned falls asleep wrapped in a salvage sheet. Afterwards Venn and Rook work with ordinary equipment that requires them to check on each other. He still reaches for the missing reel before a descent.
